44 Years Ago, Eagles Release the Single "Hotel California"

When one thinks of the pinnacle sound of classic rock, many probably immediately think of The Eagles and their iconic catalog. That would be a very appropriate thing to say, given their status as one of the titans of the rock genre. They've been a staple for many since the 70's, which is what this article celebrates today, as the title track from one of their most famous albums turns 44 today. That's right, 44 years ago today, the band released the single for their upcoming album of the same name, "Hotel California".

Some of the song's many meaningful lyrics are analyzed below:

"Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes bends

She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys she calls friends

How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat

Some dance to remember, some dance to forget"

With the lyrics often described as being about drugs, there have been many different meanings drawn from them. What we gather from this stanza in particular, is that some people are in their own world, their own headspace that they cannot be taken out of.

" "Relax," said the night man

"We are programmed to receive

You can check-out any time you like

But you can never leave!" "

For this segment of lyrics that close out the song, we've come to the conclusion of them being a warning that the ego that you've built up from being in the spotlight, is next to impossible to rid yourself of. Once you become absorbed to the lifestyle, you cannot simply leave it all behind.
